My travel in 2016 (January to September)

I found that in this year 2016, till September 16, I have traveled about 50000 km across the country.

10 visits to New Delhi
2 visits to Bangalore and Bhubaneswar each
single visit to Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Pune

I could find time for sightseeing only during visits to Bhubaneswar and Coimbatore. Others involved only work....

Met so many good people, educationists, Management experts, Government officials, officers of international organisations and teachers, teacher educators...

Revisiting my Travelogue!

I had started writing about my travel to various places, cities and countries in this blog. But it seems I lost interest in it after 2011 (I see that I could not really pay attention to many of my hobbies after taking the responsibility as Vice Chancellor of SNDT Women's University, Mumbai in May 2011). Now I wish to rejuvenate some of those. Writing a blog is one of them.

Banares Hindu Vishwavidyalaya (BHU)

I had heard a lot about BHU. Was very proud to know Prof. Jayant Narlikar, a great Scientist is a product of BHU.

Planned to visit BHU with my uncle Prof. S S Kulkarni. Prof. Rathod was a great help in arranging the visit.

an equally impressive Museum (first time I visited a museum run by a University) and respectful remembrance of its founder Great Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya.

It was exciting to visit Kashi Vishveshwar Temple and also participate in the aarti at the river Ghat at night.

Sun Temple (Surya Mandir), Konark

I had visited Bhubaneshwar many times in the past, but every time due to some reason could not visit Konark. This time (Jan, 2010) I promised myself to visit Puri and Konark and I did it.

Mr. Giri from SIET, Bhubaneswar and Ms. Senapaty (best half of Prof. Senapaty from RIE Bhubaneswar) were with me and they made my trip to both these holy places valuable and memorable.

Sun Temple at Konark was built in13th-century. It was constructed from sandstone by King Narasimha I (1236-1264 CE) of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty.

It is also a world heritage site.

Kurukshetra, a Place of worship

We (me, Satyavati and Vijaya) visited Kurukshetra (and Panipat) on Oct 10-11. Kuruksheta is a Holi Place for Hindus as Bhagwan Shri Krishna told Geeta to arjuna on the Battle field of Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra.

This town is full of temples, the famous are Sthaneshwar temple and Bhadrakali Temple (one of the 52 Shakti Peethas).

Palace of Versailles, Paris

Recognise this photo? Yes, Marie-Antoinette of Versailles. Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen was was an Archduches of Austria and the Queen of France and Navarre.

At the age of fourteen, on the day of her marriage to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, she became Dauphine de France. At the death of King Loise XV, in May 1774, her husband ascended the French throne as Louis XVI, and Marie Antoinette assumed the title of Queen of France and of Navarre.

During the Reign of Terror, at the height of the French Revolution, Marie Antoinette's husband was deposed and the royal family was imprisoned. Marie Antoinette was tried, convicted of treason and executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793, nine months after her husband. (wikipedia)

I visited the Palace at Versailles on 3rd Oct. It was a wonderful place to visit. Palace is full of beautiful furniture, drand halls, fire places, huge drapperies, Hall of Mirrors and many other things. The gardens surrounding the Palace are just heavenly places.
